I rediscovered this lovely blog post recently. At this time of year (just when I personally find that I should be slowing down and resting more) the to-do list seems to loom even larger and can easily dictate entire days. And how we spend our days is how we spend our lives...
So I've taken a tip from Liz Lord and have just written a 'to be' list. I've kept it short and manageable, covering the things that most matter to me at this time. I will keep these intentions close by throughout the Christmas break and into the new year. Top of my 'to be' list is a reminder to be gentle towards myself, including when I don't quite manage to be what I aspire to be... Wishing you all a peaceful Christmas break xx http://oxfordmindfulness.org/news/mindfulness-everyday-life/

I feel so lucky to be able to teach mindfulness sessions in our local primary school. Here are some thoughts from the children gathered by their class teachers this week 🙂
'Mindfulness means to me that I can relax and I focus on my breath. It lets me have some time to rest. I remember that our minds are like a puppy. I like the sessions because they help me to be calm at home.' 'Our minds run away sometimes...' 'It makes me feel that I calm down. It makes me happy. It makes me feel better.' 'I think mindfulness is a part of kindness.' Every so often I come across an article that I would nail to my fridge as a constant reminder if I could. Noticing with a smile that I am teetering around giving advice THIS is one of those.
'The human soul doesn’t want to be advised or fixed or saved. It simply wants to be witnessed — to be seen, heard and companioned exactly as it is.' ~Parker J. Palmer 'This is the first, the wildest and the wisest thing I know: that the soul exists and is built entirely out of attentiveness.' ~ Mary Oliver There is a line to be skilfully walked here and I cross and re-cross it each time I teach, but this is the way I will practise inclining my mind. https://onbeing.org/…/the-gift-of-presence-the-perils-of-a…/ |
