Is it something I do to myself?
Approaching life with the attitudes of mindfulness allows us to relate to our experience in new ways. And it’s like a box of chocolates – you never know what you’re going to get… Returning to the 8-week course over the last year has been a catalyst for me to fully expose my inner critical voice, and to come to relate to it as part of experience in a truly freeing way – from a place of understanding, gentle allowing, and compassion towards the critic (rather than the existence of my self-critical thoughts being yet another thing to beat myself up about!). This will be truly life changing and an ongoing practice, made possible by such a supportive group of people around me on the course. I tried to express this with help from reading an excerpt from Echobelly’s Great Things yesterday though I did resist the urge to sing. Love is something you do to yourself.

The end of the beginning...
Home after a long day in Oxford brings our year of Foundational training at the Oxford Mindfulness Centre to a close. Today was a day for reflecting on where we have been, where we are, and where we might go in the future. And a long lunch together sharing readings, well wishes and music. Just lovely. A less than lovely hot journey home on bus replacement services to be greeted by the beautiful smile and kisses of smallest one... and some wonderful noticing with his senses: "When you wake up you smell lovely, all juicy and fattened and strawberriey. Now you smell of rotted cheese." |
