“People from a planet without flowers would think we must be mad with joy the whole time to have such things about us.”

Jon Kabat-Zinn describes nine ‘foundational attitudes’ of mindfulness. I know that I could regularly benefit from more of these!
The good news is that they are all capacities that you can grow and develop through a regular mindfulness practice. You are then more able to turn to them and to dial them up depending on what the moment needs.
Get in touch if you would like to explore these foundational attitudes of mindfulness through our next 8-week online MBCT for Life course Quite often I find myself saying to others (and this has come from moving in mindfulness circles) that I have spent time ‘sitting with’ something difficult.
And I have, I sit to practice mindfulness almost every day. But in truth, sitting with something can be blimmin' difficult and just too uncomfortable at times – it doesn’t always feel wise. So, it’s a really helpful and compassionate suggestion to also consider ‘moving with’ something difficult. Through mindful movement (I am currently enjoying qi gong), walking, dancing to your favourite music, simply shaking and bouncing, or rolling around on the floor as a child might (they know what they are doing!). The key word is of course mindful. Coming to the body moving as a mindfulness practice. Feeling into the direct sensations of the body moving. When the mind takes you away from the body noticing where it goes, with friendliness and curiosity, and when you are ready coming back to body sensations again. If we can get into the habit of listening to our bodies, some mindful movement may be just what they are calling for. This is a poem for someone
who is juggling her life. Be still sometimes. Be still sometimes. It needs repeating over and over to catch her attention over and over, as someone who is juggling her life finds it difficult to hear. Be still sometimes. Be still sometimes. Let it all fall sometimes. ~Rose Cook |
